SMHA - What's New for 2023-24?

As we approach the upcoming hockey season, it's a great time to update you on some new initiatives for the 2023-24 season:

SMHA 50TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON

 

 

 

 

 

SMHA is celebrating its 50th Anniversary season in 2023-24 - we are glad you will be part of it!

** Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 20, 2024 as SMHA will be hosting a 50th Anniversary Celebration Banquet at Prairieland Park.**

Watch for more information on this event and other 50th Anniversary happenings as we roll through the 2023-24 season!

 

INAUGURAL SEASON of the U16AA BRIDGE CITY BLUES

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The U16AA Bridge City Blues will take to the ice in 2023-24 as a member of the new eight-team Provincial U16AA league that will be part of the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League, joining the U13AA, U15AA and U18AA leagues.  The other seven teams in the U16AA league are:
Martensville, Prince Albert, Northwest, Regina, Moose Jaw, Melville and Weyburn.

Saskatoon AA Hockey & SMHA are pleased to have Brent Dean as the first Head Coach of the Bridge City Blues.  Brent was Head Coach of the U15A League and Provincial Champion Saskatoon Bombers in 2022-23.

Tryouts for the U16AA Blues will take place concurrently with the U18AA Tryouts on September 23 & 24th.

SASKATOON COMETS TO HOST ADDITIONAL U13AA & U15AA TEAMS

 

 

 

 

The Saskatoon Comets will be hosting two female U13AA teams - up from one team - in 2023-24 as well as two female U15AA teams - also up one team. 

The additional two AA teams are an enhancement to the SMHA / Comets female development model.

Good luck to all involved with these teams in 2023-24!.

 

INAUGURAL SEASON of the FEMALE U22 SASKATOON PRAIRIE BLAZE

 

 

 

 

 

While not a SMHA team, SMHA wishes the best of luck to all involved with the new Female U22 Saskatoon Prairie Blaze. Many former Saskatoon Comets players will be part of this team for years to come!

The Prairie Blaze will compete in the new six-team Provincial U22 Female Junior League that will begin play this fall.

The other five teams in the league are:
Regina, Southwest, Lumsden, Kindersley & Outlook
