2023-2024 SMHA City-Wide U15A

Welcome to another exciting season of U15A City Wide Hockey! Year one was well received.

We are thrilled to have a total of 339 skaters & goalies, male & female, registered for U15A tryouts!
 

2023 U15A Tryout Dates – September 10-17, 2023
 

The following information explains the process of for the upcoming evaluations. The general evaluation schedule is listed below. Scrimmage groups and times will be posted ASAP.. 

NOTE: We will have a REST Day on Thursday, September 14th

Please take the time to read through this information thoroughly. Follow the U15A City-Wide box on the SMHA website for updates, scrimmage times and groups – www.smha.sk.ca

Returning U15A players & goalies from the 2022-2023 season will be placed directly into the Sept.15-17 weekend scrimmages. This is NOT a guarantee that these players & goalies are eligible to be drafted.

Players & goalies released after participating in the U15AA Final Weekend tryouts (Sept.9-11) will be placed directly into the Sept.15-17 weekend scrimmages. This is NOT a guarantee that these players & goalies are eligible to be drafted. 

Not all skaters/goalies who compete in the U15A Final Weekend scrimmages, September 15/16/17, are eligible to be drafted.

U15 Goalie skills evaluations will be held on Saturday, September 9^th at Rod Hamm Arena. Ice times and groups for these evaluations will be sent by SMHA Goaltending Development Chairperson, Kayla Shaw.

• Starting goalies for scrimmages will alternate.

ALL players must read and acknowledge the SMHA Social Media Policy (attached) prior to receiving their try-out jersey. Violations may result in removal from the tryouts with no refund provided.

Try-out jerseys MUST be returned after the Wednesday scrimmages, prior to the weekend. Players will be reassigned jersey numbers and colours for the weekend scrimmages. These jerseys must be returned at the conclusion of Sunday’s scrimmages.

ALL players MUST check-in at the table prior to EVERY scrimmage. It is critical that the committee and evaluators know that each skater/goalie are present for each scrimmage.

All scrimmages are evaluated by independent evaluators who provide a score for each scrimmage based on skating, puck control, work ethic, checking, shooting, passing and hockey sense.

All prospective Coaches will be in attendance for the scrimmages.

For the scrimmages Sunday, September 10th - Wednesday, September 13th, there will be a buzzer every 60 seconds to indicate a line change. Line combinations should rotate.

For the scrimmages Friday, September 15th - Sunday, September 17th, there will be a buzzer every 75 seconds to indicate a line change. Line combinations should rotate. 

All scrimmages will have referees.                                                                                                                                                                           

In the event, ANY player is unable to finish a scrimmage, OR attend a scrimmage, a communication must be sent to the U15A Chair or Co-Chair, outlining the reason for the absence, i.e.: injury, along with an explanation. Every effort will be made to accommodate. With that being said, accommodations are NOT guaranteed. Contact information is listed below.

All players receive a score for scrimmages, therefore, if they are NOT in attendance, their final score will reflect this.

The eight Head Coaches will be named on Friday, September 15th.

The U15A City-Wide Draft will be conducted on Tuesday, September 19th.

**All players are to be in full equipment, including neck guards for all ice times or they will be asked to leave the ice until rectifying the issue.

**All players are to wear their zone or neutral-coloured socks – NO AA, U15A or spring AAA team socks / stickers.
